One of the issues with using the GM 800 power steering box from the Oldsmobile was that it operates at a pressure of around 600-800 psi. The Chrysler power steering system operates at a much higher pressure which would damage the GM steering box.
One of the tips I picked up early on in the project was that both Chrysler and GM used power steering pumps made by Saginaw, more importantly the pump housing for both designs was virtually the same. So I bought a GM pump for a LS engine sometime ago. I finally got around to installing it on the 5.7 Hemi. All that I had to do was drill out the metric tapped mounting holes in the body to 5/16″ so that I could use the Hemi’s larger mounting bolts. The other issue was that the GM pump uses a 6 rib serpentine belt while the Chrysler uses a 7 rib version. Simple solution pull the pully off of the Chrysler pump, ream out the mounting hole to 21/32″ to provide a .010″ interference with the GM pump shaft and then press it on! Problem solved, the only down side is that I have yet another bastard part on the old girl that I will need to keep track of should I need to replace it down the road.
