Mom Raccoon and Her 6 Kits
A few nights ago we were sitting around watching TV with the back door open when we heard a lot of squeaks and chatter and a bunch of little feet scurrying up the back steps. I had the back porch lights on dim so that we can watch our two outside cats that live under the house and spend most of the warmer months camping out on our porch. After a few minutes one of our local raccoons arrived with her 6 baby kits. She has visited with them a couple of times before, but I didn’t have a camera ready. The kits are growing fast, and from the looks of things we have two males and four females. This will be about the third and largest litter that have been brought by for food by the mom after they had been weaned.
It is kind of nice having them around, they aren’t as friendly as the raccoons that we had in Austin, but I still enjoy watching and listening to them.
Ah, the joys of living in the forest! Raccoons on the back porch, bull elk standing in the waterfall pond, cow elks laying around in the grass and the odd bear up the tree next to the garage! It just doesn’t get any better than this!
