The Stainless Trim

Since most of the stainless trim on the wagon was actually in pretty good shape and required little repair, I had originally decided to do it myself and save some money. As luck would have it my friend Paul had come up for the Memorial Day Car Show and he told me that he would be going to the polisher to pick up some of his trim and that he would be glad to haul my trim down to have it done. After doing month upon month upon month of dirty fussy work on the body, I made the decision to give myself a birthday present and have it professionally polished.

Rear Floor Trim

I still haven’t totally figured out what I will be doing with the rear floor area. The original set up was 1/4″ plywood that was covered with a fairly tough vinyl covering, that was trimmed in stainless. I think I will end up with the floor being carpeted and I think it would look nice if it was trimmed with the stock stainless, so I pulled all the pieces off the plywood and put them with the outside trim.

The Outside Trim

The Dodge does not lack for stainless trim! Not up to the level of a 1958 Buick Limited, but a fair amount by anyone’s measure. The only parts that I have not sent for polishing were the front vent window frames, since they still have good glass in them. I also held back the fixed window frames on the rear doors for the same reason, along with all of the exterior door handles which were in very good shape and will be easy to buff up.

The polisher has since called and quoted me $750 to do all of the pieced that I had sent down, including trying to clean up the aluminum door sills which were pretty much a mess. I should have everything back home by sometime next week!
