Day 14 – Travel to Saint Marys MT

Well, I don’t know how I lost a day along the way, but some how we find ourselves on Day 14 of our travels, instead of Day 13 – perhaps I subconsciously felt that Day 13 might be unlucky?

No matter we left Lake Louise on September 18 and headed down the Trans Canada Hwy passing by Banff again on our way to Calgary AB.  Another spectacular drive and yet another beautiful, prosperous, well kept city with great highways, no litter or graffiti.  When we stopped for gas we met several more very friendly and helpful Canadians.  As I said before, Canada really impresses me, I am going to have to do some research and find out how they, at least in the provinces we have visited in our travels.

From Calgary we headed south down Canada 2 to the border crossing which was painless since we were in a pretty remote area.  The customs guy was actually fairly interested in the wagon and asked a few questions about the build, pretty much what a car would/do ask.

Once we cleared the border we headed down US 2 to Saint Mary where we had booked a room at the Saint Mary Lodge. They had upgraded our room to one on the 2nd floor which had a nice view of the mountains and the river that flows behind the lodge.  They didn’t offer WIFI in the lodge rooms, only in the lobby and restaurant both of which were filled with other tourists and their smart phones and tablets. I decided to take a couple of days off from the internet so I left my stuff in the wagon and Michelle and I proceeded to the restaurant for some wine, beer and soup! Earlier in the day we had a nice lunch so neither of us were very hungry so the soup of the day – a corn chowder, sounded pretty good.  Michelle sampled a local Riesling and I had a couple of different local IPAs which were both excellent!

When we got back to the room, it was close to sunset so I had to get a few snaps of it from our balcony.
