Day 12 – Moraine Lake, Banff and the Historic Train Station

What a great day!  We began the day by a short hike to the end of Moraine Lake and by the time we made it to the Twenty Dollar view point the sun had risen high enough to begin lighting the peaks of the mountains and glacier that were on the Canadian $20 bill.  Along our hike we met a young man from Colorado who said “I come from an area which has some pretty spectacular views, but this area simply blows it away.” We had to agree!

After a bowl of soup for lunch we headed down the Trans Canada Highway to Banff for a walk about.  Banff is a vacation town done right.  Clean, well cared for, nice views around town and free parking!  Once again it highlighted the general prosperity that we have seen everywhere we stopped in Canada.  Almost every shop/ restaurant windows had help wanted signs prominently displayed.

After our walk around Banff we drove back up to Lake Louise for dinner at the Historic Canadian Pacific Railroad Station which has now been converted to a very nice restaurant.  A fitting evening for our last night in Canada.
