Now that I have the 9″ Ford installed and my hand healed up I decided to have the Durango drive shaft shortened and a Ford U-Joint mount installed. I also wanted the 5 on 4 1/2 Ford stud pattern replaced by the 5 of 4 3/4 GM pattern to match the front GM hubs.
While I was at it I mounted the new gas tank as well.
Drive Shaft, Axles and Gas Tank Install
I contacted Dick at Mountain Drive Line to find out what measurements he needed for the drive shaft. After making the measurements I took the drive shaft and axles over to Dick and he cut off the Durango U-Joint and replaced it with a 9″ Ford one. The Durango Drive shaft did not need to be shortend nor rebalanced – amazing how close the ’56 Dodge and the 2005 Durango were in size. Dick also took care of changing the wheel studs over to the GM pattern.
After cleaning up the gas tank mounting straps and rplacing the studs on them I bolted the tank in.
