This past Monday, the wagon has been at Lui’s for two months which was about the time that he thought it would take him to get it done. The good news is that he has the seat covers all done but ran out of material to finish the console. He contacted his supplier and the supplier was also out of it as well, so back to the distributor…
Lui has found out as I did that when it comes to the Dodge wagon, everything is larger and harder than you planned on and everything takes more time than you had figured…
So now we are looking at two more weeks before it might be done.
On another front, Paul and Judy stopped by on their way home from the Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour that they, Charley and Danise and Bob Bailey/Larry Ways had been on. Having a couple extra bodies available we moved the 1940 Convertible from the garage on the house to the shop garage where I can start looking it over in detail and begin planning what work needs to be done. Paul and I looked it over rather closely yesterday afternoon and we found that it was much better than I had thought it was. For the most part it looks like only a minimal amount of body work has been done to it. It is basically a good ole rust free car from eastern Canada – go figure… sometime you get lucky!
I still haven’t decided for sure on what I will use for a drive train, but I am getting pretty close on deciding to go with some version of a 4.6 L Modular engine and an AOD-E overdrive with a nine inch Ford rear end.
Suspension is looking like it will be an IFS coil over shock setup in the front with rack & pinion steering and a four bar coil over suspension in the rear. With around 300-350 HP and about 3000 lbs it should make for a great around town fair weather cruiser.
Hey old man, just found your site, and it looks like you are having fun in retirement. Drop me a note on my email with your phone number and the next time I am in showlow we can do lunch or something.
Say hello to Mitch for me!!
