A short trip to California

Since we didn’t get a chance to go on the Logan UT trip that we had planned for July, due to our extreme fire danger, Michelle and I decided that since the monsoons are now in full swing to take a trip to Santee CA to visit Michelle’s sister Twilla and our nephew Darren who recently moved from the bay area down to San Diego.

It was great to visit with the family and to do a little sight seeing around San Diego.  On Friday we headed over to Seaport Village to check out the boats in the Harbor at the Marriott and have a bit of lunch at the Pier Café before heading over to Old Town.  Darren just started working as a bartender at a new Mexican Food restaurant, The Alamo Café near the center of Old Town.

Later that evening, since we were staying in El Cajon we headed to the downtown area which looks to have been recently redeveloped.  As luck would have it, they have a free concert every Friday night in the town square which was packed to overflowing with folks having a great time listening to a 60’s tribute band playing all of the old favorites. Michele and I stopped by the bar across the street from the square to have a glass of wine and a beer alfresco at one of the sidewalk tables.  Great time, wish we had something more like this in Show Low!

On Saturday we took a trip to Julian since Twilla had never been there before. The weather was cool and cloudy all day until we headed back to Santee.  As soon as we hit I8 we were hit with a deluge of almost biblical proportions.  Bettie did well, with only a couple of small leaks around the windshield.

On Sunday we headed up I15 to Apple Valley to visit OTHG Members, Don & Glenna Williams who recently moved there  from Gilbert.  They are managing a very nice manufactured home park and have a lovely and large new home! And Don has a garage! Both of them and Lady their border collie seem to be quite happy!

Bettie logged another 1200 miles on her odometer and we had a pleasant break from our day to day routines.

Now we are looking forward to our Pacific Northwest – Canada cruise later this year!
